THE College, under new Principal John Smith, has a new management structure which aims to provide a more efficient and effective service for students, staff and the area it serves. Deputy Principal is Nancy Reid who has guided the College through many of the changes that took further education colleges out of local authority control and which gave them their own budgets to manage. The College, under

the new structure, has brought together different departments under two faculties:

the Faculty of Arts, headed by Assistant

Principal David Green, formerly head

of General Education; and the Faculty of

Business and Technology, headed by Burnley-educated Eileen Baron, previously head of Construction and Engineering.

Julian Clissold is Assistant Principal Student Services, with

greatly extended responsibilities.

As a result of the

changes, two new directors took up their posts last month and will oversee personnel and

in the pipeline for the School of

Furniture — and it may well lead to a wider, European-based influence for study. The miracles of tele-conferencing

have already seen an introductory link with the Scandinavian country. College experts

have been describing workshop skils and the history of English furniture with the Swedes who, in the return link, will be telling their Burnley counterparts about the influence of Scandinavian and Swedish designs. Eventually staff and

student exchanges could be part of the Euro-view of the industry at the College.
