to !%.’>. Arriving at Dar-es- Salaam. she travelled over night by train, then the next day hy bus, which had to be sprayed completely, as they were travelling through tsetse flv country. Her eventual destination was Mbeva and a hoarding
school where slie was to teach seven-year-old children whose p a ren ts were missionaries,
settlers and colonials. Fees at that time were just UO per term, heave was every two- and-a-half years and she was never sure where she would teach on her return. Mrs .Jefferies later became
headmistress of a lar^e school in D a r -c s -S a la am , b efo re finally re tu rn in g homo to
