appeal success
KVKN before the Centenaries began, a globetrotting appeal was
under way. Mr Peter Anwyl. the former
head of St Mary’s Hull, visited members of the Stonylmrst •■family” all over the world, from former pupils to current parents, in bis capacity as appeal director.
The total raised to date is a
magnificent V2.:!T million. Slices of the proceeds have been used for the Centenaries Theatre, as well as projects being undertaken tit Stonylmrst College and St John’s lteauinont. Windsor.
'The success of the appeal and
our ability to finance these projects were due entirely to the generosity of old boys, parents and friends of Stonylmrst. We
were overwhelmed by the mag nificent response," said Mr
Anwyl. While Mr Anwyl was
travelling, head of history and politics Mr Thomas Muir was researching and writing. His book. “The History of
Slonvlmrst College. lalM-P.hlJ. is the first full account of the college’s extraordinary past. Published on the eve of the Centenaries, the book set the pace for a remarkable year of commemoration.

Supplement winner
THE excitement of the Centenaries was cap tured in print on the pages of an award-win ning “ Advertiser and Times” supplement. The 12-page souvenir
was packed with photo- graphs and articles illu minating the dist in guished history ol the
oldest Jesuit school in the English-speaking
world, as well as practi cal information about day-to-day life within the beautiful Hurst Green
grounds. Stor i es about the
arrival of girls and day boys, the important links between the college and local people, plus a guide to some of the mor- famous old boys, were few of the highlights. The supplement even
tually wended its way around the Kibble Valley and the world, tying the pomp and ceremony together for old boys, parents, employees and all manner ol people con nected with Stonylmrst and St Mary’s Hall.
