1 ADMISSION: 20p Christmas Fayre Prizes CHRISTMAS MESSAGE 1993- At
Gate i stood I been like.
I think it would have been quite different For one thing it wouldn t have been cold, and for another it would have been a lot scruffier than that nice, tasteful stable scene at the Castle Gate. The stable at the back of the inn at Nazareth would have been
, , , . . , ,
pretty awful. Now it’s certainly right that we should be reminded what Christmas is really about by
having a portrayal of the nativity scene right in the middle of our town. But let’s try to avoid being captivated by the Christmas card image of the spotlessly clean holy family. Their present day equivalent would probably be a Palestinian refugee family in the Gaza strip or a homeless family in bed and breakfast in Bayswatcr. The thing about Jesus is that He was bom as one of us — one of the least of us; a baby bom into and brought up in poverty. Maybe this Christmas we will find His presence with us more as we do our bit to help the refugees and the homeless than when we toast his good health in the brandy that
we didn’t pour over the Christmas pudding! Happy Christmas!
