Pet dog Holly gives owner will to live
A CLITHEROE widow whose life has been filled with trag edy in 1993 has found hope this Christinas season in c re a tu re s
great and small. Mrs Vera Morrell, of
Siddows Avenue, will be marking the Yuletide fes t iv i t ie s with h e r dog, Holly, which has given her the will to live through
traumatic times and hope that 1994 will prove a hap pier year.

Also not far from her Mrs Morrell is con-
cerned about one of the birds, which has a fishing hook and line cau gh t around its neck, wing and leg. But with help from the Friends of Fur and Feather and the RSPCA, she hopes the snow white drake will be captured and t r e a t e d in t im e fo r

bird would be the best gift possible for Mrs Morrell,
who has overcome immea surable losses during the past 12 months. She began the year caring for her dying husband, John. Around th a t time, an
article appeared in the “Advertiser and Times” about a tiny Jack Russell which Ribble Valley dog warden Miss Penny Bus ing had found curled up in a West Bradford hedge row on Christmas Eve. Christened Holly, the

Mrs Morrell not only
had to cope with the death of her husband, but a few weeks later thieves broke into her garage and tried to steal the family car. She was so upset that she had the car taken away, rather than risk another attempt. Then, in June, she lost
her 35-year-old daughter in tragic circumstances. Throughout, Holly has
provided Mrs Morrell with an incentive to get out of the house and take walks. The r iv e rb a n k ha s

Clash of views on new Sunday trading law
SO far, so good — but pos sibly not far enough. That was the message from Ribble Valley MP Mr Nigel Evans on Sunday shopping. Mr Evans, along with

Ribble Valley shared the glee of Mr Evans and Mr Favell. Clitheroe Mayor Coun. Howel Jones, who has been an outspoken opponent of Sunday trad ing would have preferred the ^eep Sunday Special
