Gishurn Parish Church on Sunday morning, they were greeted by the sight of the beautifully decorated and lit Cliristmas tree in the sanc tuary and a profusion of holly, ivy and seasonal flowers throughout the church. Canon J. Hudson led the
family service, during which chorister Matthew Lloyd lit the third candle on the Advent crown and Sunday Club members performed a short play, "The Day before Christinas,” with Victoria Speight as narrator. The chil dren ended their presentation by singing “Away in a Man- ger.” In his address, Canon Hud

CLITHIOItOE magistrates fined a motorist £500 and banned him from driving for three years in a case described as the “start of the police’s anti drink d riv in g campaign for Christinas.” Leslie Clayton (45), who
lives in lodgings at the Sta tion H o te l , King Street, Clitheroe, pleaded guilty to having excess alcohol in his breath and was also ordered to pay £25 prosecution costs. The court heard that he

Modern miracle for church
A R T le c tu r e r s have worked against the clock to perform their own Christmas miracle for a Whalley church.
Anxious members of the
Church of the English Martyrs, Whalley, con tacted staff at Accrington and Rossendalc College when they discovered that nativity scene figures hud been damaged hy vandals.
Three lecturers worked
for two weeks to repair and repaint the three-foot high plaster figures of the shepherds and wise men in time for the Christmas service. The figures hud been kept in the church's organ
