PLATO is recorded as saying: “Curiosity is the mother of knowledge.” It is when we are queried as to why we have faith
and what we believe that we need to find satisfactory answers. Christians will agree with me that it is when, through such questioning, we attempt to tes tify, we feel helped in the task by the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit. Some time ago, on being
asked what the early disciples believed, what was the first Christian creed, as is my habit I prayed: “Lord,
help me now!” and the reply came very quickly into my mind: “Jesus is Lord!” They were not expected to believe this or that
Questions,” Dr F. R. Barry states that the original form of creedal statement is “We believe,” rather than “I believe.” When we recite the Apostles’ creed, Dr Barry writes: “a man is offering not so much his own faith as the faith of the church. There are many things that mystify him and, while he may have come to the conclusion that there are parts he cannot accept, the fact remains that he unites with God’s people in their affirmation of the statement of their faith, even if there are parts of which he has reserva tions, doubts or even denials.”
before being accepted as members of the Christian churches but, having been attracted to Jesus and His teaching, they simply joined the Christian fellowship who accepted that their supreme Lord was Jesus. It is certainly the beginning of knowledge for us when we seek answers to questions that have puzzled us. Enlightenment can be a great blessing.^ Thomas the doubter was an asset to the church with his ques tions, putting into words that which others wanted to know, but hesitated to ask.

to doubt like Thomas. The essential question asked of the earliest
believers was: “Do you accept Jesus as the Lord of your life?” If they did, they were welcomed into the Christian fellowship. The same applies today. Can you honestly say that Jesus is the Lord of your
life and future days? Think and pray about this. When you acknowledge Jesus as Lord, you have given .the necessary answer to the .essential question to Qualify your acceptance as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ.
