THE ROYAL BRITISH LEGION POPPY APPEAL
REMEMBER THE DEAD, BUT DON'T FORGET THE LIVING.
The Poppy Appeal exists to help all servicemen and women, who have sacrificed so much during both World Wars. There are still over 1,700 War Pensioners and 3,400
Servicemen's widows from the First World War to care for, besides 242,000 Pensioners and Widows from 1939 to date. The need for caring continues, with over 4,000
Servicemen killed and 16,000 injured in the 70 so-called 'peacetime' conflicts since 1945.
The Royal British Legion is the premier ex-Servlce charity devoted to carrying out its
objective of relieving hardship within the ex-Service community by providing welfare relating to pensions, allowances and grants. About 18 million people are entitled to
ask for the help that The Royal British Legion can provide, and over 100,000 benefited in some way last year.

Our six country homes care for over 300 residents and 4,200 were looked after in our 3 convalescent homes. We gave
allowances to 4,820 permanently incapacitated people and widows and were able to make grants to other ex-service
Charities. In addition, we provided 609 much needed holidays for the severely disabled.
WELFARE SERVICES LOCALLY 3,294 Legion Branches operate a local advice and welfare
service, involving over 20,000 voluntary social workers,which handled innumerable hardship cases. In. addition 43,046 hospital visits were made to the long term sick and housebound.
