Popular group reviews its success stories of the past year

ONE of Clitheroe’s most popular groups held its annual meeting at Clitheroe Cricket Club.

The Clitheroe Group of

the Ramblers’ Association has a large membership and over 1,G00 people have taken part in the year’s walks. Chairman John White-

head reported that the past year had been a suc cessful one and secretary Ben Brown said that there had been 52 walks during the year: 22 in the eve ning, 29 in the day and the traditional Boxing Day ramble. The evening walks

attracted large atten dances, none having fewer than 30 participants and one with 72 (an average attendance of 48). The day walks a t t r a c t e d an average of 1G members. Family Rambling Day attracted 98 walkers, which put the Clitheroe

last year had been a busy one, particularly in rela tion to matters concerning footpaths. The success story of the year was the victory on Sawley footpath number eight: a victory which had taken five years to achieve. Footpath secretary Pat

It was proposed and carried that the bridleway be retained and downgraded to foot path status. Tribute was paid to Tom
