Canoeing Wigan peers
THE fourth race in the North West Scout and Guide Canoe Series was held on Wigan Canal last Sunday. It also incorporated the
national championships and attracted over 140 entrants, including a large number of Scouts, Guides and leaders from Clitheroe and District. The race itself was held
in appalling conditions, with wind and heavy rain hampering competitors. There were races for seniors (five-and-a-half miles), juniors (four miles) and beginners (two miles). The most outstanding
performance of the day came from 12-year-old Sarah Watson (Trinity),
