Bryan Lones was removed from the action after the first delivery was placed in the second slip’s hands. Mick Dewhurst and Chris Seed built up a 50 partnership after this, but neither looked secure. Terry Clegg and Philip Hanson, the
village side’s openers, con stantly beat the edge of the bat without reward. However, their luck eventually changed when Dewhurst and Seed were caught behind the wicket. Barry Mocke, for the second suc cessive week, was adjudged leg before wicket without playing a shot and Neil Ashworth picked up a duck from a superb Clegg
delivery. At 74 for 5 from 20 overs, the
outcome of the game seemed decided. At this point, the Read catching disintegrated and Clitheroe were let back into the game. Paul Rushton and Alan Henderson were dropped a number of times, mistakes which proved to be extremely
costly. After each dropped catch, they hit out in style, putting on

Tony Dodgeson and Philip Hanson, - despite the plight of their team, could not resist Sutcliffe's tossed-up deliveries and paid the price. This was a welcome return to
