Elderly turn out to mark diamond day
A 'VILLAGE’S oldest residents turned out when a veteran of both the first and second world wars celebrated his diamond wedding.
Mr George Kippax (92)
and his wife, Edith (85), of Hough Avenue, Simon- stone, were joined by the v i l la g e ’s over-80s at a party arranged by Simon- stone Mothers’ Union. The party took place on
Tuesday at the home of Mrs Margaret Town, of George Lane, Read, and coincided with the MU’s monthly get-together for their elderl.y members.
Earlier in the day the
couple, who have lived in Simonstone for some 40 years, held a party for family, friends and neigh bours at their own home. Sharing in their big day was their only daughter, Judith, who is single and lives with her parents.
Mr Kippax, a retired
te x t i le manufacturer, served ,with the Royal Engineers in Egj-pt during the first world war and with the Pioneer Corps in Ital.v in the 1939-45 war. He was a captain for most of his service.
Born into a long-estab
lished family firm of cotton manufacturers, he was managing director of Kip pax Bros, W'aterloo Shed, Burnle.v, for nian.v .years and later ran a te.xtile pro cessing firm in Padiham.
Mrs Kippax is a native
of Halstead, Essex, where the couple were married, and was a member of the WRVS and Inner Wheel in her younger days. Mr Kip pax was a Kotarian.
Both enjoy reasonable
health and are able to got out and about in the village.

The bride, a student at
the R oyal C o l le g e o f Music, London, is the elder daughter of Mr and Mrs K. Reddy, of Gills Croft, Clitheroe. The b r id e g ro om , a
chemical engineering stu dent, is the elder son of Mr and Mrs J. Murphy, of Mansfield, Nottingham shire. The bride, given away
by her father, wore an off- the -should e r gown of white satin and lace with a Bo Peep-style crinoline skirt. She had a circlet of flowers in her hair and carried a crescent-sliaped bouquet of roses, white freesia, lilies, gypsophila and stephanotis. In attendance were Miss
Catherine Reddy, the bride’s sister. Miss Susan Dewhurst and Miss Nicola Gallemore. They wore silver grey
