Polluted stream
AN overflow of effluent from a collection tank at Gisburn Auction Mart gave a stream a greenish- brown tinge, Clitheroe magistrates were told.
For failing to prevent
pollution, the mart was fined £150 with £172 costs.
Mr Barry Dealing, pro
secuting for the North West Water Authority, said-that samples of water analysed were “four times as strong as crude domes tic sewage.”
fending, said the tank acted as a collection point for surface water and material from the animal pens. The contents were pumped into a nearby field, but on this occasion the tank had overflowed following heavy rain.
The defendants were
ordered to pay a £90 anal yst's fee.

IMPORTANT NEWS FROM THE
CHAIRMAN OF AIRTOURS Many thousands of people have taken long stay
holidays with Airtours this winter. Because of the incredible response to these holidays we are having to put on extra planes to fly home all these passengers who have avoided the English winter weather. This means that we have empty seats going out between April 25th and 29th, the returns coincide 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15 days later with the start of our summer programmes.
Rather than let these seats go empty we are prepared
to sell them below cost price for this one weekend only. The standards of flights, apartments and hotels will be the same as our normal brochures.
