A LIFELONG supporter of Clitheroe Football Club, Mr Douglas Kay, died on Friday. He was 64, and lived in Henthorn Road, Clitheroe.


A popular figure at


Shawbridge, he never held any office a t . the club, but had closely fol­ lowed its fortunes since childhood.


Mr Kay worked for


nearly 30 years as a. machine cleaner at the Stonebridge textile mill in Chatburn now run by Smith and Nephew, until ill-health forced him to retire in 1980. He leaves a ’wife and son.

Lectures at Leeds


CLITHEROE Parish. ChurcK organis t Mr Charles Myers, who grew up in Worcester, talked about the town and the way it has changed over the years as a background to a lecture recital in Leeds on Monday evening. He'was speaking on


“the keyboard works of Sir Edward Elgar” to the Yorkshire branch of the Elgar Society. The recital included a number of Elgar’s works, including the Sonatina in G.


Path repairs


THE reinstatement of some paths from Barley to the Big End of Pendle is under consideration by Lancashire County Coun­ cil. It will cost about £1,500 to repair stream erosion damage and im­ prove drainage.
