CLITHEROE’S players are approaching the new season with confidence and belief in their ability. Since finishing runqcrs-up
to Barnoldswick last season, there has been only one change at the club. Bill Sling er has taken over the captain cy from the intelligent and hard-working Keith Fawcett, who will continue to play for the club. Andrew Townslcy has been
retained as professional for the third year running, and with so little change within the club, Clithcroe have a firm foundation for a renewed
title bid. Said Mr Slinger: “A repeat
of our form last season wilt hopefully bring us the champ ionship. I can’t see any reason why we should not ,be up there challenging for hon
club's mood o f optimism stems from the seniors’ blend of youth and experience. One of the most exciting
ours again.” Mr Slinger believes that the
prospects is teenager Richard Thornton, who in his skipper’s words, showed great promise last season with the bat, and whose fielding ability and en th u s ia sm inspired many
players. The 2nds, last year’s Law-
renson Cup winners, can also look to improve this season. Meanwhile, the club has
bought two new sight-screens and some portable nets. These are a “boon” that will enable the players to spend more time practising.

RIBBLESDALB Wanderers have been practising and training for several weeks to ensure that they are one of the fittest sides.
•And the players have been
given a boost with the news that last , year’s top run- scorer, Australian youngster, Jamie Mitchell, is back at Church Meadow for his second season. It is also local lad John See- dle’s second season as profes sional. Last year, after what must have been a disappoint ing start by his standards, he showed all the flair that earned him a place as a pace bowler for East Lancs. Last season, the Wanderers finished , a disappointing second from bottom. But their chairman Dennis Birch,
