A MASKED man wield ing an axe threatened a postman in Simonstone on Monday morning the third raid on a post office van in the village within the past 12 months. But it was a case of

at exactly the same spot — in Harewood Avenue — and at about the same time on Monday as the two previous raids. In January, £5,700 was
snatched and another £5,000 was taken last July. The postman involved
in this latest incident, Mr Doyle (26), of Burnley, was finishing deliveries when the man with the
axe appeared and ordered him- to “open up,” brand-: ishing the axe like a to mahawk. Padiham police have ap

A CLITHEROE man has died of a heart attack while- on holiday in Con necticut in the USA: Mr Norman Kenyon
(74) ,and his wife Eileen were staying with his stepson Mr Brian Cawley, president of a- television rental company. Mr Kenyon was suddenly taken ill with' chest pains and later died in hospital. The couple had planned
a -four-month stay with' some sightseeing. Mrs- Kenyon is staying on in the United States until June." Mr Kenyon worked at
BAC in Preston until his retirement. Three' years ago the couple" moved to Whalley Road, Clitheroe. After cremation in the United States, Mr Ke
nyon’s ashes are to be in terred at Clitheroe Parish Church.

cepted by Mr Stanley Westhead, . chairman of the Ribble Valley appeal committee, at a special civic reception at the town hall. Thanking the Mayor,
Mr Westhead said the Ribble Valley appeal fund now stood at £28,760. He was confident that the target of £40,000 would be reached in the next year.

A WOMAN who devoted her life to Trinity Method ist Church in Clitheroe, Mrs Elizabeth Willacy, has died in hospital, aged 78.-
. Born' in Feniscowles
Mrs Willacy (78) was ap pointed a Methodist local
preacher in 1946 and came to . live, in Clitheroe with
her husband 30 years ago. She worked for the
Women’s Fellowship at Trinity for many years and was pianist at many of its .meetings. She was well-known locally as preacher, although ill- health forced her to 'cur tail her work. She is survived by her
husband, James, of Kenil worth Drive, and two married sons who live in Barrow-in-Furness and Anglesey.
