Christine enters

triathlon

NORTH Lancashire Road Club riders left Whalley on a mild December Sunday and lunched in Malham after a brisk ride through Barrowford, Gisbura and Hellifield to join up with colleagues from other local clubs. The large group strug gled ' over. Scosthrop Moor to Settle and enjoyed the journey home along back roads. Christine Goodfellow has re

ceived her first Christmas pre sent in the form of an entry to the Ribble Valley triathlon en tailing a mile swim, 20-mile cycle ride and a 10-mile run. She hopes to be joined by other club nders in the interesting three-hour event. Melloris Steve Gregson rode

a cyclo-cross event at Kirby, Liverpool and picked up a valu able 15 points in the North West League. Tomorrow club members and

friends will hold their Christ mas party at the District Club, Blackburn, organised by Ian Gas tall. During the winter there will

be informal rides from Brow- nhill roundabout; Blackburn, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays (10 a.m.) and riders new to cycling will be most welcome on the short, easy country runs.

Good team effort

Waddington 4, Barrowford 1

ton started slowly but after Rimmer got the third goal, Waddington once more put Barrowford under pressure, and several good chances were ■missed, then Tomlinson got the fourth goal. Barrowford scored a consolation goal with a penal ty. A good team performance.

NEXT

IN the next round of the F A Vase competition,

Clitheroe will be at home to Osset Albion, from the Le eds area, on New Year’s Day.

Hopes of further glory from clash with Marine

AFTER Saturday’s dazzling victory over Whic- kham in the second round of the F A Vase, Clitheroe will be hoping to do the “double” with a giant-killing performance at Shawbridge on Saturday when they clash with Northern Pre mier League side Marine, in the first round of the Lancashire Junior Cup.

It should be a cracking

game. The v is ito r s , Marine, are riding high in the Northern Premier League and, according to Clitheroe chairman Cyril Whiteside, are the best side that Clitheroe are likely to play. And if Clitheroe turn in

a performance like the one that beat Whickham, there is every chance of further glory.

faced a strong Colne side with only 10 players for a game vital to both teams' promotion pros pects. Kicking into the wind on a

muddy pitch the villagers struggled to contain the lively opposition, and it was no real surprise .when Colne scored after 10 minutes. Their second goal appeared

to be suspiciously offside with two players apparently at fault. Waddington pressed forward

and Bacon had a fme chance to reduce the arrears but failed to find the final touch. Colne proceeded to make

Waddington pay for not having made the most of their chances. A series of comers enabled Colne to turn round with four goals in the bag. With wind advantage Wad

dington produced some splen did football. Green and Bacon combined well for the latter to open the villagers’ account but Colne replied with a shot that took a deflection and- then scored again, against the run of
