THE provision of a kitch en for school meals at Clitheroe Royal Grammar School for boys heads the list of minor building pro
jects to be recommended to the county council by the District Education Liaison Committee. Other proposed wdrks
include minor internal im provements at St James’s School, Clitheroe, a new science laboratory at St Augustine’s, Billington,' and completion of a new building at St Mary’s RC, Langho. The second phase of the
extension to three form entry at Clitheroe Girls’ Grammar School is also in cluded, along with a hall at Chipping Brabin’s En dowed School, an all weather pitch at Ribbles- dale School and internal improvements at SS Michael and John’ s, Clitheroe.
held Drive, West Brad- tord, to form an enlarged bedroom and bathroom, porch and balcony, has
been refused by the Ribble Valley Council’s Development, Sub-Com- mittee, despite recom mendation for approval-
In .a report to the com
mittee, Chief Architect and Planning Officer Mr Philip. Bailey said that the extension would have the effect of narrowing the gap between adjacent properties, creating a change in character of the estate. ■
However, recommend
ing approval, he said that planning authorities were being urged to relax their control on proposals which would not have a serious impact on neighbouring developments.
Five letters of objection
had been received from neighbours and the Parish Council said Southfield Drive was an exclusive development and any large extension should be refused..
The committee agreed
that the plan should be refused, as it would spoil the appearance of the estate.
