Sabden school cook’s special send off

MOST mums would like to share some of Mrs Pat. Ainsworth’s secrets for dealing with troublesome children at mealtimes.

For Mrs Ainsworth has

been cooking meals for Sabden’s schoolchildren for the past 28 years and says she has always man aged to cope with difficult youngsters — even get ting them to eat their “greens.”

Sadly, Mrs Ainsworth

(52) retires tomorrow though ill-health. “I shall miss it, because I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every minute,” she said. Mrs Ainsworth, of Pendle S tr e e t E a s t ,

Sabden, started as a gen eral assistant in Sabden County Primary School kitchen and ,has been cook-in-charge for the past 26 years.

She also cooks for chil

dren at the village nurse ry and St Mary’s RC School, about 100 in all.

“I know the children go

home t e l l in g th e i r mothers about the strange dinners they’ve had — such as goldfish, when they were in fact peaches — but I’ve never had any complaints,” she said. “You have to humour

children and I’ve always managed to win them over in the end.”

Shuttleworth Hall, Gis burn, both attend Rivers- mead County Secondary School, where Helen has been taught spinning by needlework teacher Mrs Alexandra Walmsley. A Gisburn YFC entry

entitled “Things we do in the YFC” took third place in the club d isp la y section. The display, measuring

eight feet long by six feet wide and six feet high, was prepared by all mem bers of the club. Seven of their number took it to the show — Helen Mat- tinson (16), Virginia Tate (15), Linda Hanson (14), Sarah Gorst (14), Heather Lund (18), and her sisters Alison (14) and Helen

(13). It is the first time the

club has entered for that section of the show. To qualify for the 10-club final, they had to win the Settle District YFC Rally and the Northern Area Field Day at Penrith. The display was shown
