A DAY out at the seaside in beautiful sunshine was enjoyed by 24 residents of Castleford, Clitheroe — thanks to customers at the town’s Royal Oak
Hotel. Regulars at the pub
raised nearly £160 by put ting spare cash into a bottle on the bar. The money was used to treat the senior citizens to the coach trip and afternoon tea at the County Hotel, Carnforth. After tea, residents
spent a pleasant time re la x in g in a park in Morecambe. Royal Oak landlady Mrs
Freda Leonard, her daugh ter Janice and customer Mrs Elaine Gidlow went, along to see the residents enjoy’ their day. They were thanked by Mrs Elizabeth Stratton.

way included harebells, scabious and rosebay willow herb.

PILLOW fights, pony rides and children’s sports were among the attrac tions when Billington and. Langho Community As sociation organised a summer fete on Saturday. Despite the gloomy
weather, the fe te a t tracted a good attendance and raisea about £100 for association funds.

tion ran various stalls, games, a tombola, re freshments and teas. There were also children’s sports, sponsored by Bil lington and Langho Parish Council, which provided lollipops for all the com petitors and Royal Wed ding crowns for the race winners. The.pony rides were ar
ranged by Mr and Mrs B. Geldard and Mr and Mrs G. Robinson, of B i l lington. Other local organisa
tions ran s ta l l s and sideshows to raise money for their own groups.
This proved very popu
lar and groups manning stalls included the WI, S co u ts and Gu ide s Langho playgroup ant! Billington ana Wnalley Mothers’ and Toddlers’ group, St Leonard’s MU, S t Mary’s RC Ladies Group, the Royal Naval Association local branch, the Conservative Associa t ion and the Pendle Animal Welfare Associa tion.
