STONYHURST teacher Mr Brian Carr has been named Chess Player of the Year in the East Lanca shire B Division Chess league.

CLITHEROE magistrates brought in the hot line to justice when they heard a motoring summons. Mrs Patricia Ann Miller,
of N ew to n S t r e e t , Clitheroe, had admitted parking in a prohibited area in a letter to the court. But the letter was still at
the magistrates’ clerk’s office at Reedley, when the court sat on Tuesday. So court clerk Mr Paul
Wilcock contacted Reedley from the courtroom tele phone. The letter was dic tated from Reedley and passed on verbally line by line by Mr Wilcock to the bench. It included Mrs Miller's
explanation that she was delivering fish to a shop in Moor Lane, when her unattended car was spot ted on yellow lines by a policewoman. Mrs Miller was fined £15. Mr Wilcock told the
court, “It must be the first time anyone has ever pleaded guilty by phone.”
