£5,000 tower appeal

THE ravages of time and weather have taken their toll on All Hallows Church, Mitton.

And now the vicar, the Rev. Arthur Higginson, is having to extend out side the parish an appeal for money to pay for repairs to the 15th Cen tury church tower.

Work has already started on the tower — to pre vent the rot spreading — but the Parish has still to find more than £5,000 to pay the bill.

The estimated cost of repairs and renovations is more than £12,000. Half of this will be paid by the Department of the Environment, but the parish must pay the rest.

Efforts are being organ ised to raise money, but the amount required has forced Mr Higginson to appeal to people who have had connections with the church in any way.

Last year, the tower’s plight was revealed by a diocesan architect, who makes regular checks on churches and their con tents.

Sportsmen’s big night out What would the first

Mrjohnson have thought ofour405varieties?

In 1820 William

i Wade Johnson was selling a few

dozen varieties of seed from a market stall in Boston. Today that range has

grown to 405. And Johnsons are widely regarded as the leading privately owned seed company in Britain. Johnsons made their name

by growing seed for market gardeners, food processors and agriculture as well as other seed companies. And now that same expertise is available to yoy.

For the amateur as well as

the professional it's results that count.
