Parents angry t o o '
WE sympathise fully with t h e g o v e r n o r s o f Whiteacre School. But they are not the only ones t o - be 'angry - about ' the v transfer, of pupils to their school, or indeed about
•these pupils being packed into Ribblesdale. Why have we got this
overcrowding; at Ribbles dale?- ~
. . There must be a lot of

‘There is obviously a cry- ing need for. more- school . space — possibly - more, (>
schools. In -recent ; years ‘ only; one new school has been built.. Clitheroe and district needs schools much more than a new town hall.
Lack o f foresight has
given the children born in - the 1960s a raw deal. Can we allow this state of over crowded classrooms — and thus neglected children’s needs — to continue into; the 1980s?

It surely cannot be that
Clitheroe’s shopkeepers, hotel and restaurant staffs are so well paid that they can afford to do without the money likely to be spent in the town.
For how much longer
will tourists and others come into the town if, when they get there, it is impossible to get an even-, ing dinner or midday lunch, and they have to make do with a bar snack?

Anglers’ fury over fence
AN exclusive-anglers’ club may take legal action against a Waddington farmer to make him remove a barbed wire- fence on the Clitheroe bank of the River Ribble.
1 Members of the Ribbles dale Angling Association are angry because the fence prevents them fish ing a stretch of water they lease between Brungerley Bridge and the1 Bathing
. Steps. ; ^ The association made an
immediate 'protest when the fence, was erected last summer; by Mr Jim Bar- row, of Oakenfields, Wad dington. Since then it has made further approaches to ask for its removal.
Association secretary
Mr Max Dawson said: “The height of the game fishing season is almost here and this particular stretch is excellent for catching sea trout. :
“My members pay a lot
. of money in rates and sub scriptions and they are entitled to expect to fish without this sort of hindr ance.” .
. The anglers lease the
fishing rights from the Guides Association in Lon don and under the agree ment are allowed “uninter-, rupted passage” along the river bank.
Normally a nine-foot
wide access is provided under such agreements.

Health Council to meet ris
ing costs. The move came follow
ing a letter from Mrs Mar garet Panikkar, Ribble Valley Organiser for Meals- on-Wheels, and Coun. Mrs Beryl Cassidy, the Clitheroe Organiser.
It pointed out that
because of difficulties in staffing in the Clitheroe area there were problems involved in washing up after deliveries had been made.
The letter also stated that the Health Council
. wanted the meals increase back-dated to April-1st. Coun. Bill Fleming (Bil-
lington) thought that the washing up charge was “ fan ta st ic ” and Coun. Geoffrey: Ainsworth (Bil- lington) thought that they should look for somewhere else to carry out the work. He also disagreed with the April back-dating.
7 The chairman, Coun.
Tom Robinson (Clitheroe), said that'if they'wanted to keep the service in . the town there were very few choices le ft open. He suggested that the Health Council should be asked to back-date from July 1st.
