Car ‘corpse’ is grave problem for priest

THE Rev. Arthur Higginson has a grave problem he is dying to gel rid of. For a beaten-up red Ford Escort estate car has been dumped outside St John’s Churchyard, Hurst Green.

The car has been there for nearly three weeks, and

has had seats and tyres slashed and windows smashed.

Mr Higginson, the priest-in-charge, is disgusted

with the whole affair and so are many churchgoers. “We have difficulty catering for the deceased because the churchyard is quite full. And we have no

intention of opening a cemetery for cars,” said Mr Higginson. Mr Higginson has no idea why the car was left but

wants it moved auickly. “At least there have been no ..........

After the court hearing

they will receive a further week’s notice to pay up, otherwise bailiffs will be - empowered to seize goods to the value of the rates outstanding.

Mrs Manley’s trip is to

means that her. tropical holiday will not finish until, September 10th, which is

seven days after the start of the new school term. . Trouble in the air, how

ever, is nothing new to Mrs Manley. Six years ago there was a bomb scare on- the plane she was travel ling on to Greece and the plane, later -developed an undercarriage fault as -well! -

Beauty treatment

THE scenery around New ton and Sawley should be even more beautiful than usual this summer. For a total of 1,700

metres of electricity cable were hidden underground by Norweb workmen ear lier this year. In Newton, 710 -metres were taken down and buried, and 990 metres received ■ similar treatment, in Sawley. The1 cost of the whole

operation — part of Nor- web’s annual programme — was just under £12,000.
