KEITH HARGREAVES, the Chat- burn skipper, played a great game to help the villagers halt Ribblesdale’s
. good run. He scored their two first- half goals and later completely bloc- ked-out the visitors. The f ir s t goal came after 10
minutes when Hargreaves netted from close in following a corner. McClcan almost got an equaliser from a good run but lift a post. Later, Hargreaves rose high above the defence to head’home a Slingcr
corner.kick. Ribblesdale pressed bard after the
turn-round but failed to pierce a solid defence and with GO minutes gone Metcalfe wove his way from the halfway lino and found the top corner of the net from 20 yards to put Chatbum three up. King after wards scored the fourth with a low shot that beat Whittaker, who had a very good game, along with Bialccki fo r the visitors. However, Chat- burn’s all-round performance was

snatcli late equaliser
Hurst Green Res 4, Whalley 1.
FJGHTING back from being 4-1 down, Hurst Green Reserves took their unbeaten run in division two of. the Ribble Valley Football League to four games. Wha lley, a good side,, were
favourites and an interesting feature of t ho game was that two of the best
players on view wore under 14 r— Whaljcy’s goalkeeper Wmklcy, who despite lack of height brought off several saves and showed experi ence fa r beyond his years,, and Rogerson, the Hurst Green left back whose anticipation and distribution was as good, as any full-back in the league.
- A f te r resisting early pressure
Whalley settled down and became dominant. Moore put them one.up • and then Young headed an excellent equaliser for tho Green. Moore restored the lead and Eatough (G) made it 3-1 a t half time. When Illingworth put Whalley on
four, defeat seemed a certainty for Hurst Green but they attacked from the restart and dominated thelast 20 minutes. The visitors’ defence tired . and Eccles (J) and Eccles (R) scored a goal each. In the last few minutes Hurst Green wore denied an obvious penalty but Livegcy pounced on the clearance and scored the equaliser from an acute angle. * H u rs t Green Res: Hayhurst/.

neither side giving any quarter and • tlirec players were booked — Nut- tall and Rosa (the former Clitheroe . and Lcyland Motors player) for
Waddington, and one Chapman’s player. Former Gisburn players Simms
