the tune of £400, his ideas for increasing social functions and saving money on show day proved just the boost it needed. Today, although the show still runs at a loss, the committee manages to main tain a healthy bank balance.
As a‘ tribute to Mr Pye, the
committee has invited his widow Mattie to be their pres ident when they celebrate the show’s 50th anniversary next year. Although Mrs* Pye, of
Holme House, Chipping, has always been an enthusiastic supporter of the show, she views the prospect of her role as president with mixed feel-, ings.

_A LOCAL inquiry is to be held into an appeal against Ribble Valley Council’s refusal of permission for resi dential development on land at Knunck Knowles, off Wad- dington Road and Ribblesdale' Avenue, Clitheroe. , The inquiry, to be held in
the Council Chamber on Tues day, July 15th, at 10 a.m., is into an appeal by the trustees of the late Mr F. Entwistle. The rejected plan was for the development of 113 units on 11.30 acres of land.
