Tiger Subsea Lever Hoists Available with Digital Functionality

The Tiger SS19 subsea lever hoist includes many features designed to combat known failure modes when hoists are used subsea. It incorporates a unique rotational inertia driven torsion switch brake and freewheeling system which automatically engages when the hoist feels the slightest resistance or load, meaning there is no requirement for preload tension to activate the ratchet mechanism.

This key feature means that the SS19 will raise, hold and lower the lightest of loads without slipping. The two-stage brake process protects against accidental light load failures by putting the hoist into neutral whilst under load. To achieve complete neutral the switch gear must be aligned which is impossible to do whilst under load.

The SS19 includes Tiger’s globally patented Quad Cam Pawl System which guarantees permanent engagement of at least one of the two reciprocating cam pawls. In the unlikely event of a pawl spring failure, this design will ensure the brake is still fully functional and the load sustained without damage to the mechanism. This Tiger design has been proven over nearly 10 years and is a standard feature in Tiger Professional and Specialist chain blocks and lever hoists.

offshore and marine environments. Precisely engineered side plates and components protected by a full gasket give the brake chamber and contents maximum protection from external contamination. Gearboxes contain one-piece pinion gears to eliminate a known failure mode in multi-piece gears. An 8 point multi- start thread pinion shaft doubles the lead distance compared with typical 4 point threaded shafts, increasing the brake efficiency by 100%. With fine manufacturing tolerances between the pinion shaft thread and critical brake components Tiger have engineered out a known failure mode where contamination to the threads can lead to brake failure or slippage.

An extremely corrosion resistant paint finish and corrosion protected components makes the SS19 ideally suited for multi-immersion applications. This has been independently tested and verified over 54 days continuous exposure to an industry generated test programme in a real life offshore and subsea environment.

Tiger Lifting in the UK have started shipping out products with digital functionality. When RFID is incorporated this allows access to digitised safe use instructions, certification and pre-use checklists. Having this information available digitally significantly reduces paper waste helping companies manage
