Adam is especially proud of British farming’s high standards of animal welfare, waste management, control of inputs and fair employment regulations, but also wants people to be aware that those involved can lead relatively isolated and challenging lives, with mental health something he believes should also be talked about openly.

“We need to be celebrating British farming and how excellent we are at producing safe, healthy food and looking after our environment. There’s a lot of positivity out there as a result of people gaining a greater understanding of what farmers do.
“Being involved in day-to-day farming can be a great life, being in the great outdoors with wildlife around you; conversely there are an awful lot of mental health problems in agriculture with some very good mental health charities working hard to look after farmers.”
Adam welcomes the way in which TV programmes such as Countryfile, Clarkson’s Farm and Channel 5’s Springtime on the Farm are making agriculture more accessible to the public, along with farmers’ own efforts through YouTube videos and social media posts, ‘Facetime a Farmer’ sessions with schools and Open Farm Sunday events.
“Over the years we (farmers) have become a bit disconnected from the public, but I think the connection is growing again. Becoming better informed means being able to think very carefully about what you’re eating, where it’s come from, the production systems it’s managed under and whether this suits your ethics, health and wellbeing.
“By buying British you’re supporting Great British farming, and in buying local you’re recognising the countryside looks the way it does mainly because of the way it’s been used and managed by farmers.”
Being an ambassador at the Royal Three Counties Show brings many advantages for Adam. Alongside sharing his passion for farming and the countryside, he enjoys making the most of

opportunities to eat delicious food, much of which is produced in Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and Herefordshire; watch the action in the Countryside Arena and the Main Arena, including the iconic Grand Parade of livestock; talk to breeders about their experiences and successes, find out about the latest machinery and shop from the wide selection of stands selling quality country clothing and much more.
All in all the Royal Three Counties Show represents three busy, fun-packed days for Adam and he’s delighted that he’ll soon be at the award-winning event, held against the majestic backdrop of the Malvern Hills.
“I never thought I’d take such an active role in the show, but because of my work in the media the organisers asked me to be a show ambassador, which has been a great pleasure.
“Visitors to the Royal Three Counties Show will find a day there to be a very full day; there really is something for everyone. I’m really pleased to be able to go for three days and see it all!”
