THE RELAXED CHARM OF A TRADITIONAL PUB WITH A MENU THAT FEELS THAT LITTLE MORE SPECIAL


Tucked away in the heart of historic Lichfield, The Quill & Scholar is the kind of restaurant that combines the relaxed charm of a traditional pub with a menu that feels a little more special.


Following its extensive refurbishment, this characterful mock-Tudor building has been transformed into a welcoming dining destination, with cosy corners, stylish interiors and a lovely garden room.


We were looking forward to putting the seasonal menu to the test, and our meal got off to a delicious start with two very different starters.


The twice-baked cheese soufflé with rich Coastal Cheddar sauce was wonderfully indulgent. Light and airy in texture but packed with cheesy flavour, the soufflé was beautifully complemented by the rich, creamy cheddar sauce. It was the sort of comforting dish


that immediately makes you want to slow down and savour every mouthful.


The chicken liver parfait, meanwhile, offered a completely different experience. Smooth and luxurious, the parfait was served with red onion marmalade, cornichons, a Port and balsamic reduction and slices of brioche. The sweetness of the marmalade and richness of the parfait worked particularly well together, while the cornichons added a welcome sharpness to cut through the richness. Spread generously over the brioche, a beautifully balanced starter.


For the main course, we opted for two seafood dishes, each offering a completely different take on fish.


The grilled cod with lemon butter and caper sauce was a classic combination, with the delicate cod perfectly suited to the bright, buttery sauce. Served with creamy mashed potatoes, persillade and
