LICHFIELD FESTIVAL 2025 PROMOTING MUSIC IN SCHOOLS

Lichfield Festival is well-known to anyone in the region who loves the arts and music. It curates the city’s major summer arts festival (details of July’s event will be announced on 10 April) and springtime Literature Festival. Alongside these it programmes a chamber music weekend and Christmas events. But Lichfield Festival also has another hugely important string to its bow – it gives life-changing opportunities for children to engage with the arts.


Every child deserves the chance to discover the magic of music, and the Festival’s latest ambitious learning and participation project is already giving free instrumental music lessons to over 100 primary school children from five local schools (including violin learners at Charnwood Primary Academy, pictured). It provides not just instruments and expert tuition, but also incredible opportunities for those same young musicians to perform at their very own Lichfield Festival event.


There’s no doubt that playing an instrument benefits well-being and creativity, and studies have shown it also helps improve overall academic performance. But with curriculum time for music shrinking, many Staffordshire children are missing out, and those from
