When we’re all rushing around getting from A to B, we take for granted the attractive and unusual buildings around us every day. How many of us do a local history trip beyond our school days, if ever?
Far from boring, there is nothing better than an expert giving a guided tour to deepen your interest, make something exciting and reveal remarkable facts about the things you see every day…. you’d do it on holiday.
Heritage Open Days is England’s largest festival of history and culture. Every September thousands of volunteers across England organise events to celebrate our fantastic history and culture. In 2026 the festival runs from 11-20 September and its theme, Everyday Histories, invites visitors to explore working lives, daily routines, crafts, skills and the often-overlooked stories behind the places around them. It is a chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences, all of which are FREE to explore.
Free and brilliant for young and old, generating immersive and interactive experiences in the real world beyond the virtual view of any screen or tablet.

TENBURY WELLS – TENBURY TALES
11, 12, 15, 16, 17, 18 & 19 September 10.30am-1.00pm. Tenbury Wells Museum will feature special displays of local people who contributed to the town’s history through service, business, creative talents and memorable everyday lives.
For 2026, Tenbury Tales focuses on people connected with the town, including Edward Goff, whose Victorian school now houses the museum; James Cranston, designer of the Pump Rooms; local business families; creative figures; and distinctive local characters whose stories help bring Tenbury’s everyday history to life.
The exhibition uses archival photographs and informative text to introduce figures such as Sir Thomas Lawrence, Graham Archer MBE, George Parkin, Sam Dodge and ‘Donkey Davis’, linking the town’s buildings and streets with the people who lived, worked and became part of its shared memory.
