Marylebone Cricket Club Reveals Updated Carbon Impact Report
Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has launched its updated Carbon Impact Report, marking a significant step forward in its long-term commitment to environmental sustainability at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
Batting for a Better Future is MCC’s sustainability-focused campaign. It aims to promote and highlight the Club’s uniquely independent position in cricket so that we can do our part to address the challenges that climate change poses.
Of the challenges facing us today, climate change is among the most significant, and MCC is very aware of the impact climate change can have on cricket. Examples include the increase in the number of rain affected matches, changes to how pitches are managed, damage to facilities and the impacts on players and spectators of extreme heat.
Working alongside our partners Net Zero Group – Sustainability Simplified, the Club has launched our updated Carbon Impact Report. This provides a more comprehensive carbon footprint, including our Scope 3 mapping, and outlines achievements across the year and plans for the future. The report, unveiled on World Sustainability Day, tracks MCC’s progress toward its ambitious goals of becoming carbon neutral by 2030 and net zero by 2040 (or sooner), in
line with the UN Sports
Framework, of which MCC is a signatory. Key
achievements highlighted in the for Climate Action report include Lord’s
becoming the first cricket ground to map a full carbon footprint, including its scope three (supply chain) emissions, while also indicating that MCC has seen a 4.5% reduction in Scope 1 emissions and a 17.5% decrease in business travel emissions.

These improvements have been driven by major energy-efficiency measures, including the introduction of Building Management Systems covering 70% of the Ground, LED floodlight upgrades, and
a significant Lord’s estate.
Looking ahead, MCC is looking at investing in additional water fountains and increased shading across the Ground to address rising summer temperatures and enhance visitor comfort.
