First Opportunity Scholarships to be Awarded in May

NEWS & NOTES Palmer College enrollment continues upward trend

New student enrollment has continued to grow steadily at Palmer College of Chiropractic’s Main and Florida campuses over the past four years. This fall, Palmer Florida welcomed the largest class ever in its 22-year history, and Palmer’s Main campus welcomed the second-largest class since 2007, missing last fall’s record high by only two students. “We have invested heavily in the student-learning experience over the past several years,

and we’re seeing the positive impact of those strategic investments,” said Michael Norris, Ph.D., vice chancellor for admissions. While many colleges and universities have shiſted large parts of their program online,

Palmer has remained committed to the hands-on, classroom learning experience. “We hear from prospective and current students that they highly value our hands-on

approach,” said Norris. “Tey consider Palmer because we’re known for being the first, the largest, and the best, and when they tour campus and talk with our faculty and staff, it quickly becomes evident to them that we continue to follow through on that long- held reputation.” Palmer continues to enroll the most students of any chiropractic college, with 20

percent of all current chiropractic students enrolled at a Palmer campus. “We’re excited and optimistic about future enrollment at Palmer and the impact of

strategic investments made by College leaders and the Board of Trustees. From new learning spaces, technology and scholarships, to the profession’s largest alumni network and new marketing initiatives to spread the word about Palmer, there’s a lot to look forward to in College enrollment,” said Norris.

THERE’S NO ONE BETTER to share the Palmer experience than our alumni. Every year, alumni refer hundreds of students to Palmer College. Do you know someone who would make an amazing Doctor of

Chiropractic? Refer them to Palmer College! Fill out this online form, and a member of our Admissions team will be in contact.

Eastern Iowa Community College honors Dr. David D. Palmer

In 1964, David D. Palmer, B.S., D.C., then-president of Palmer College of Chiropractic, opened Palmer Junior College, a liberal arts associate-degree- granting institution. On Aug. 1, 1979, the Eastern Iowa Community Colleges (EICC) District Board of Directors, signed the contract that merged Palmer Junior College into the EICC District. To recognize Dr. Dave for his leadership in starting EICC, a plaque is now prominently placed on campus to memorialize this moment in chiropractic history.

Last year, Palmer College launched the Student Success Scholarship Initiative. Te initiative is comprised of two types of scholarships: Academic and Opportunity. For the first time, students enrolling in Palmer and starting in the summer term were eligible to apply for an Opportunity Scholarship called the Beacon Award. “While Academic Scholarships

are awarded to students based on undergraduate GPA, Opportunity Scholarships allow Palmer to award scholarships based on qualitative attributes to those prospective students who we think will flourish at Palmer,” says Michael Norris, Ph.D., vice chancellor of admissions. Since the initiative launched in spring 2023, numerous donors with existing endowed scholarships have liſted the restrictions that were originally placed on their funds to create endowed Opportunity Scholarships, which provide flexibility in making scholarship awards. Others are establishing new scholarships with their giſts to Palmer. “As we meet with alumni, we hear time

and again how important it is to them that chiropractic education is affordable,” says Barbara Melbourne, J.D., vice chancellor for institutional advancement. “More and more alumni are stepping up to make donations to support scholarships because they share our bold vision: to one day provide scholarships to all students who have the passion and drive to become a Doctor of Chiropractic at the best chiropractic college in the world.”
