KAY WALKINGSTICK AND JUANE QUICK-TO-SEE SMITH Acclaimed artists Jaune Quick-to-See Smith (Salish/Cree/Shoshone) and Kay WalkingStick (Cherokee) discuss their work, distinguished careers and thoughts about the current state of Native American contemporary art in this online program. Both artists are featured in NMAI’s exhibition “Stretch- ing the Canvas: Eight Decades of Native Painting,” which draws from the museum’s rich permanent collection to present nearly 40 paintings that tran- scend, represent or subvert convention- al ideas of authenticity. Rebecca Head Trautmann, NMAI assistant curator of contemporary art and a co-curator of “Stretching the Canvas,” moderates.
HEALING THROUGH NATIVE CREATIVITY Artists featured in the museum’s an- nual Native Art Market share stories about their latest works. Through the beauty and solemnity of their creative pieces, these artists encourage all to look toward a future of good health and social justice. X
