Trials decline in the UK
Since 2017, the number of clinical trials in the UK has decreased substantially. A report from Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry published in October details the extent of the reduction, as well as placing it in context with other country’s trial activity.

The decline in the number of participants recruited to industry clinical trials on the National Institute for Health and Care Research Clinical Research Network (NIHR CRN), from 50,112 in 2017/18 to 28,193 in 2021/22
Of physicians want to be involved in research, but 53% said they were unable to because they lacked dedicated research time.
Of NHS staff say they are unsure if research is a priority in their board’s clinical strategy.
