GGR has built a business around the mini crawler crane for restricted access, environments that are enclosed or up steps or hard to reach. And that takes us into sectors where once you would have needed a much bigger specialist crane like a tower
or an all-terrain.” “The mini market generally is booming,” says Kanlyft’s Andy Crane. “People are getting to grips in realising how useful these machines are. One application is general building sites; and obviously with the fully battery-operated eco-machines mini-cranes can work indoors, on things like glazing. We have just hired one of our Maeda 285 mini spider cranes to a company who is erecting Christmas trees all over the place. With this machine they can now be doing bigger Christmas trees...”
The art of lifting: spider cranes are stars of the show
Johnson Arabia in the GCC, is an avid user of mini-cranes for a range of different applications in place of heavier machines that usually have a larger footprint. “Spider cranes are compact, safe, and
versatile in the way they can be used,” says Mohammed Fareed, executive manager for UAE & Oman at Johnson Arabia. “Our team will often recommend these spider cranes for projects in power stations, hospitals, malls tight urban locations and even cinemas! Main reason being, they are compact enough to fi t through standard door frames and have the ability to lift up to 8 tons with its outriggers set up for load stability.” “Glazing companies can use these spider cranes on sites from inside the structure and not need to schedule time for the use of a tower or mobile crane and this helps with project timelines as well. Johnson Arabia recently needed to lift a
300 kg radiator inside a power station. To do this it chose to use a MC 405 Maeda crane. The major challenge was the weight of
the radiator and the fact that the roofi ng on the building was complete so no mobile crane would be able to access it. The only solution was to position a spider crane outside with
its “arm” on the inside for this lift. Due to the compact size and the team’s engineering, they were able to perform this lift successfully and with ease.
Another project that was done in recent months was an indoor art installation. Since the interior was fully fi nished and the art piece was schedule to be installed after, the best option to lift and place this heavy piece was a spider crane. The crane was easily brough in through the doors, the lift was completed and the team was able to leave with no impact to the existing interiors. Finally, these spider cranes are perfect
for movie sets or events where the spaces are confi ned by the studios but there is a need for these lifts as part of the story .
