copper and lead – with many of its most important ore deposits located in the Skelleftefältet. The nation is also on the cutting edge of mining research, energy efficiency, environmental awareness and industrial expertise, all facilitated by an extensive, modern infrastructure and favourable business climate.

A bigger, better expo

One pivotal aspect that Sjunnesson highlight’s is the conference’s close cooperation with mining companies, and the incorporation of discussions and talks on topical and important developmental and innovative projects, spanning not only Scandinavia or Europe but across the globe. After a sold-out conference in 2022, Euro Mine Expo 2024 is being moved to a dedicated arena that can accommodate more than 500 participants, offering a grander setting for proceedings. Additionally, the event will be introducing ticket packages, which its sponsors see as a significant enhancement for 2024. The event organisers hope that this addition will increase visitor numbers, as all admissions will now be valid for all days of the conference, including the sponsors’ guest tickets. “Furthermore, we are working closely with our gold and silver sponsors on shaping the conference content to make it compelling and worthwhile, says Sjunnesson. “We are aiming to maximise networking opportunities during out social events and intend to experiment with new concepts for 2024.” The event will also unveil new field trips at the beginning of the year.

“Mining has been vital for northern Sweden for an extended period. In 1924, a gold rush commenced in the Skellefteå Fields, prompted by discoveries made by the team that would later establish the Boliden mines,” notes Sjunnesson. “Presently, northern Sweden stands as Europe’s most mineral- rich region. Additionally, the town itself has evolved significantly over time; Skellefteå is now at the epicenter of over $100bn in investments […] and is one of the key centres where technologies and emerging industries supporting digital and energy transitions are being developed.”

The city is set “against the picturesque backdrop of the Skellefteå River and an expansive forest landscape,” she continues, making it the ideal location for a gathering of mining experts and stakeholders from across the world. At the same time, Stockholm Arlanda International Airport is only an hour away, providing key airline connections for travellers from Europe and beyond. Sweden itself, of course, has a proud history as the largest iron-ore producer in the EU, while also being one of the leading European producers of gold, zinc,

As for what attendees can except from Euro Mine Expo 2024, Sjunnesson simply states, “Higher quality on all levels”. What this means, in effect, is improvements on all fronts, leading to a better trade fair with exhibitions from the most important prominent companies in the sector, with space for significantly more attendees and even better content than in previous years. The conference has also prioritised easier registration and an enhanced fair experience, even on the granular details like providing tastier food and refreshments. All in all, the 2024 event expects to see over 200 exhibitors – in line with 2022’s numbers – from across the globe representing different interests in the mining sector. Among the exhibitors confirmed for Euro Mine Expo 2024 are Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions, Epiroc, Normet, Hydac, Copperstone Viscaria and ABB, among a whole host of leading companies from Sweden and Northern Europe like LKAB and Boliden. More than 80% of the booth spaces have been sold, and ticket sales will open at the end of January. If participant numbers grow further, as the event organisers expect them to, then it should be another banner year for Euro Mine Expo, and hopefully for the rest of the mining sector as well. ●
