Another major development is the $18.1bn Boodarie Hot Briquetted Iron Plant Project in Western Australia. The proposed facility will have an annual production capacity of 12 million tonnes of hot briquetted iron (HBI) and will be developed in six stages, with each stage producing approximately two million tonnes.


The pipeline reflects Australia’s broader focus on critical minerals and value-added processing. In early March 2026, local mining company Rox Resources announced plans to develop a gold mining project in Western Australia by 2027. Around the same time, Magnetite Mines was reported to be progressing plans for a $1.3bn iron ore


production facility in South Australia. The plant is expected to take two to three years to construct once work begins. Manufacturing capacity is also expanding.


In March 2026, Australian solar products manufacturer Stellar announced plans for a new manufacturing facility in Queensland, targeted for completion in 2028.
