TECHNOLOGY REPORT | LIFTING ATTACHMENTS

emissions a year. The mega solar park is being built by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). BloombergNEF, research group, claims renewables are now the cheapest source of new electricity for more than two-thirds of the world’s population. In other sectors, William Hackett Lifting Products has strived to produce a range of DA Offshore Swivel Self Locking Hooks to meet the arduous working conditions of the offshore environment. “With regards to product categories,
we have seen an increase in demand for hoisting, chain sling systems, and more recently Yoke DA self-locking hooks. The DA range of offshore self-locking hooks have been awarded type approval by DNV-GL – DNV-GL-ST-0378, certificate no. TAS000011K as well as complying with international standard NORSOK R-002:2017. These sophisticated hooks are widely used within the oil and gas industry for crane pennants,” adds Bell. “The focus on safer lifting appliances
has led William Hackett to design and manufacture a load attachment
MASTER TOOL & ERGONOMICS
Roger Boivin, owner, Master Tool & Ergonomics (MTE), brings in-house engineering and US-based fabrication to developing, crafting, and delivering turnkey solutions for manufacturing workspace needs; from vacuum, magnetic and gripper lifts, to inspection stations, dye carts, assembly tables, carts and racks. “The key to a successful project not only depends on the design and development of the correct lift assist or manipulator but the hoisting mechanism coupled with the lift assist. The wrong hoist can be the determining factor of whether a project is successful or not,” says Boivin. MTE installed a Gorbel IQ G-Force for a double stacked ovens weighing up to 328lbs bottom container within a cycle time of 45 seconds. The main challenge was not being
able to put force on the grip because the sides of the ovens were 16-gauge metal. However, there were embosses that were the same for all models that it could use to trap the sides of the ovens and lift them. used a parts presence switch controlled by only 10 psi to stop the inward gripping of the oven to protect it from damage. “We also used sensors integrated with the G-Force that would not allow us to lift the oven up incorrectly. The grippers had to be in the right position to lift. The 660lb G-Force IQ was very accommodating for this application. We were also able to put a pass-through line stop on the lift assist to shut the conveyor line down if the operator needed to. After a couple of days, the operators were able to accomplish this lift in less than 30 seconds exceeding the requirements for a 45 second lift tremendously,” adds Boivin.
