For More Women in Nuclear The IAEA Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship and Lise Meitner Programmes

The IAEA works to address the underrepresentation of women in the nuclear through the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship Programme (MSCFP) and the Lise Meitner Programme (LMP). By enabling more women to enter and pursue careers in the nuclear field, the programmes help build the future nuclear workforce.

Attract

The MSCFP provides scholarships for master’s degrees on nuclear related topics and internship opportunities. By the end of 2023 there will be more than 550 MSCFP fellows, with more than 170 of them having completed their master's studies and continued on to internships, PhD studies or employment.

Retain and Develop

The LMP provides early- and mid-career women in the nuclear sector with career development opportunities through a visiting professional programme. The first LMP cohorts were hosted by North Carolina State University, and Oak Ridge and Idaho National Laboratories in the USA. The next professional visit is expected to take place in the Republic of Korea in 2024, and other countries have expressed interest in hosting the LMP.

The IAEA welcomes partnering with public and private sectors, academia and civil society to work together for more women in nuclear.

Save the Date

MSCFP and LMP participants will gather at the IAEA in Vienna, Austria, for International Women’s Day on 7 and 8 March 2024 to exchange ideas and to strengthen their network and leadership skills. This is also an occasion for industry to meet with this rapidly growing community of women nuclear experts and explore opportunities to advance their careers.
