Fleet preview Volkswagen Golf
Volkswagen has comprehensively overhauled its latest eighth- generation Golf, Martyn Collins has all the details.ç
Exterior:
From a distance, it doesn’t look like Volkswagen has changed much of the current Golf that was launched in 2019. Five years on, and there’s no doubt that the changes are subtle. From the front, the Golf gets an illuminated badge and reprofiled front bumper with larger air intake, which are finished in a honeycomb design on performance GTi models. Just above the new bumper, there are new headlights, which can be optionally specified with Volkswagen’s IQ Light HD matrix technology. At the side, there are new sills, and alloy wheel designs. While at the back, there are new rear LED lights, a revised rear bumper, and a larger rear spoiler on GTi models. The final change is the addition of four new metallic colours, plus a black roof option on the GTi, GTE, and R-Line versions.
Interior:
One of the key interior changes is a new multifunction steering wheel, which, after criticism of its previously haptic controls, reverts to buttons. Volkswagen also claims that it has upgraded the interior trim, although from the pictures we’ve seen, it doesn’t look too different – and the MK8 Golf was well-made.
