number of companies were exhibiting compact, road legal, electric light commercials primarily designed for activities in parks and for garden maintenance. Among them was Etesia with the

French-built ET Lander. Grossing at just shy of 2.7-tonnes, it can handle a

1.0-tonne payload and offers a range of around 50 miles between recharges. It can be equipped as a gritter, a snow plough, bodied for refuse collection work, and fitted with a three- way tipper body among other options. On show on the Addax Electric

Vehicles stand was the Belgium-made

Addax MT15. It too is designed for municipal applications, but could be employed on last-mile delivery work in urban areas, especially where access is restricted, says the importer. Roughly the same size as ET

lectric 4x4 manufacturer Munro, which is based in East Kilbride, Scotland, showcased a pre-production version of its Serie-M Utility hard-top five seat off-roader at the NEC.

The vehicle features an LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery pack that can be charged in 30 minutes with a 130kW charger and has a range of up to 200 miles, according to Munro.

Munro plans to build 50 vehicles

this year, ramping up to a production run of 2,500 by 2027. It says the first batch of models will be delivered to customers during the summer of 2024.

Munro is targeting the Serie-M Utility at sectors including agriculture, construction defence, disaster relief and forestry. It claims the eLCV will empower customers to de-carbonise their 4x4 vehicle fleets without compromising on off-road performance, practicality and durability. Features include an adjustable steering column with steering wheel-mounted controls and safety equipment such as airbags, ABS brakes, stability, and traction control. The vehicle is offered in ‘standard’ M170 170kW and ‘high-power’ M280 280kW guises and in Utility (hard top) and Truck (open-bed) configurations.

battery pack, a 120kW peak power electric motor, a 208-mile range (WLTP combined) and a 1.2-tonne payload capacity. The newcomer comes in one length with the choice of two heights and either a 6.6m3

cargo area. “We should sell 1,000 this year,” said Mark Barrett, managing director of group franchises at Maxus’s UK and Republic of Ireland distributor, Harris Group.

In a few short years Maxus has progressed from being an unknown newcomer to an established player in the light commercial market. The electric eDeliver 9 is now in service with a number of major fleets in significant quantities.

“Tesco has got over 100 while DPD is running close to a thousand,” Barrett said.

The arrival of an electric 4x4 pick-up at the end of this year should be the icing on the corporate cake, but it has a drawback. “It will be able to tow

3.5-tonnes, but it won’t be able to carry a 1.0 tonne payload,” Barrett admitted; so business users will be unable to reclaim VAT. “I think it’s going to be more of a lifestyle vehicle than a commercial vehicle,” he observed.

Lander, its claimed range is up to 80 miles, while payload capacity is a tad over a tonne. Like so many vehicles of its size its top speed is restricted, in this case to 45mph, so its battery charge doesn’t deplete too quickly. Prices start at around £35,000. Long established in this sector of the market with products from French manufacturer Goupil, Bradshaw Electric Vehicles was exhibiting the 2.1-tonne Goupil G4-22 (pictured) equipped with a high-tip 2.2m3

tipper body for

waste collection. Payload is 740kg and the compact load lugger can tip to a height of 1.7m.

Range is just over 100 miles if a 14kWh lithium-ion battery is specified.
