January 2024 WhatVan? 3 Editor’s comment by James Dallas

With the new year getting into swing the hope is that stability has broken out in the light commercial vehicle sector following some challenging times.

The new LCV market is in rude health, as we report in News on page 4, and there are signs that a more productive balance between supply and demand has taken hold in the used marketplace. Second hand buyers are already targeting younger vans in order to comply with clean-air and low-emission zones but it will be interesting to see whether the trade’s enthusiasm for used electric vans increases this year. Our Focus On Remarketing starts on page 20. Winter is not the best time of year for taking to the road in an electric van but for those that must, turn to page 17 for some useful advice in our Focus On EV Winter Driving. The cover story this month is our IVOTY Report (page 22) on Kia’s plans to enter the van market. So far, its products are at the concept stage but expect to see ready-to-roll models in 2026. Finally, 2023 finished on a high note with the What Van? Awards. For a review of the glittering celebration, turn to page 12.
