MINISTER CALLS IN TO SHOW SUPPORT

Bannside Pharmacy in Portglenone recently welcomed Health Minister, Robin Swann, who called in with Community Pharmacy Northern Ireland (CPNI) Chairman, James McCaughan.

‘We were delighted to welcome Mr Swann,’ said pharmacy owner, Eoghan O’Brien. ‘The Minister wanted to show his support and appreciation for the vital service that community pharmacy has provided to its patients and for the response that it gave from the onset of the pandemic.’

A REAL ‘FORCE’ FOR THE FUTURE

Pharmacy Forum NI (PFNI) has announced the launch of Phase 2 of Pharmacy Futures NI.

This phase is taking the form of a paid digital campaign across Google Ads, Facebook and Instagram, targeting pharmacy team applicants in Great Britain and the Republic of Ireland.

Northern Ireland employers have been asked to post current vacancies on popular job sites, which will be signposted from pharmacyfuturesni.com

This time round, PFNI is also looking beyond the province’s immediate workforce needs.

In order to prepare for the 1,100+ additional roles which will be required in the NI pharmacy sector over the next five years.

To do this, during Phase 2, PFNI is engaging with NI post-primary schools and encouraging students to make pharmacy their career of choice.

The highlight of the outreach activity will be a dynamic virtual careers event on Wednesday 19 May, which will also be made available as an ongoing resource.

Lasting 40 minutes, the virtual showcase event will give pupils an exciting insight into life as a pharmacist in NI – from studying pharmacy at university, to the first few years as a pharmacist, to opportunities to progress in hospital, community and GP surgery pharmacy sectors. pharmacyfuturesni.com

ALL IN THE LINE OF PHARMACY DUTY

Famous for his many BBC One NI appearances over the years, Belfast pharmacist - and Pharmacy in Focus contributor, Terry Maguire, has finally been upstaged on television by non-other than his pharmacy shop that many eagle-eyed viewers may have noticed in the final episode of Line of Duty recently.

The climax of Jed Mercurio's police thriller was watched by 12.8m BBC One viewers on Sunday night, making it the fifth most-watched show across all channels since records began.

The episode outperformed the 11.3m, who watched ITV’s Harry and Meghan interview in March, demonstrating the power of linear TV to bring audiences together in an era of binge-watching on streaming.

Actor Nigel Boyle revealed that his wife was the only person he confided in that his character DSU Ian Buckells was the elusive 'fourth' man in Line of Duty and Terry would no doubt joke that it is no different from being a pharmacist!

No word on whether we will be treated to a seventh series yet, despite rumblings of this being the final ever trip to the AC-12 offices. The story certainly does not seem finished.

The BBC made no comment about a possible series seven, although Maguire has indicated Line of Duty will return if an agreement with the broadcaster for his pharmacy branding image rights is reached.

We are not sure about H, but T certainly ‘didn’t come up the Lagan in a bubble’.
