WINTER VACCINATIONS: STAYING STRONG AGAINST FLU AND COVID-19
As the winter months approach, so does the annual push for vaccinations to safeguard against the flu and COVID-19.

Vaccination: a shield against illness Vaccination has consistently proven to be our most potent defence against severe illnesses caused by both the flu and COVID-19. This winter, the campaign targets a wide range of eligible individuals, extending its protective reach across communities.
Who's eligible for the winter vaccination? If you fall into any of the following categories, you're eligible to receive the flu vaccine this year: 1. Aged 50 years or over (or will be by March 31, 2024).
2. A resident or staff member at a care home for older adults.
3. A younger adult residing in long-stay nursing or residential care settings.
4. Employed in the health or social care sector. 5. Aged 6 months to 2 years with an eligible health condition.
6. Aged 2 to 5 years not yet attending school (children must be aged 2 years or above on September 1, 2023, to be eligible).
7. A primary or secondary school pupil. 8. Aged 5 to 49 years with an eligible health condition.
9. Aged 5 to 49 years and a household contact of someone with a weakened immune system.
10. An unpaid carer or a young carer. 11. Pregnant. 12. A nursery, primary, or secondary school teacher or pupil-facing support staff in local authority or independent settings.
13. Part of the prison population, a prison officer, or support staff delivering direct front-facing detention services.
The vaccination progress As of 1 October 2023, the programme has made significant strides in administering vaccines. The statistics speak for themselves: 449,999 flu vaccines have been distributed to eligible adults aged 18 and over, with an additional 82,946 flu vaccines going to eligible children aged six months to 17 years old. In addition to the flu vaccine, an impressive 274,128 COVID-19 vaccines have been distributed across the eligible groups since 4 September 2023.
