NHSGGC PASSES 400,000 VACCINATIONS MILESTONE

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde has now administered more than 400,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Of the total number, 370,000 people have received their first jag, and 30,000 have had their follow up second vaccination, including more than 90% of elderly care home residents.

The figure marks a significant milestone within NHSGGC, and comes as the Health Board prepares to further ramp up the vaccine rollout, with appointment letters scheduled to be sent to the 55-59 years age group next week, with those in the 50-54 years age group to receive their letters the week after.

In line with national projections, it is expected everyone eligible over the age of 50 years within Greater Glasgow and Clyde will have been offered their first dose by mid-April.

LAUNCH OF NEW VACCINATION CAMPAIGN

Unpaid carers who have not already been identified through social security data or GP systems are now able to register themselves for a coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination appointment. The new online service is for unpaid carers aged between 16 and 64 who provide face-to-face care for a family member or friend.

Carers who receive relevant benefits (Carers’ Allowance, Young Carer Grant or Child Winter Heating Payment) will be in the system and will receive a letter with details of their appointment. But all unpaid carers are being encouraged to self-register. When they do, they will be advised if they are already scheduled for an appointment so there is no duplication.

‘The support provided by unpaid carers is hugely valuable,’ said Health Secretary Jeane Freeman. ‘I know they are under greater pressure than usual as a result of the pandemic, and we owe them our sincere thanks for the important work they do.

‘It is crucial that all unpaid carers are offered a vaccination so they are protected whilst they care for others.’

GPHC ANNOUNCES 2021 REGISTRATION ASSESSMENT DATES

The sittings will take place on:

Summer assessment: 27, 28 and 29 July 2021 Autumn assessment: 16 November 2021

These sittings will be delivered through Pearson VUE, mainly at test centres in Great Britain.

The registration assessment sittings are usually held in June and September.

These dates in July and November are the earliest available where Pearson VUE test centres can accommodate the predicted number of candidates under the current social distancing guidelines.

The GPhC Council has agreed that provisional registration of pharmacists will be extended to January 2022, to enable trainees from the 2020/21 cohort to apply to join the provisional register once their training is satisfactorily completed, so that they can take up offers of employment at the same time as they usually would, from 1 August 2021.
