CIBSE guidelines of LG09 Nursing Homes

Similarities can be made with the care home setting with communal spaces, private bedrooms and living areas having an average illuminance of about 200 lux at table height, however nursing homes often offer a higher level of medical and specialist care.

Therefore Lighting Guide LG2: Hospitals and health care buildings should be considered when proposing a lighting scheme for a nursing home setting as the requirements may require higher illuminances in treatment areas etc.

Other areas in the nursing home setting, such as administration stations, would also require higher level of illuminance of about 300 lux at certain times in the day but reduced during the night particularly if located in the same open space as residents sleeping accommodation.

Recommended maintained illuminance LOCATION
