Lighting Guide 9 states that “Lighting should be designed to produce a generally domestic atmosphere.” Communal spaces such as lounges and dining rooms should have an average illuminance of about 200 lux at table height (approximately 0.7 m  switched luminaires to allow for different types of activity as well as local areas of illumination or task lighting to allow for reading etc.
