BG Sockets at Swansea Field Hospital

City Electrical Factors in Barry has supplied BG Electrical’s sockets with USB connectivity to a temporary hospital in Swansea. Swansea Bay Studios on Fabian Way was the chosen location for one of two Field Hospitals constructed as part of the UK’s response to the Coronavirus outbreak.


Unlike the Nightingale hospitals in England, the two Swansea Bay field hospitals were designed to treat patients who were less ill, but not able enough to go home. Formally a factory, then film studio complex, a structure had to be built within the building to create a modern hospital setting providing 850 beds for the NHS.


Named after Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, Nightingale Hospitals are part of the UK’s rapid response to the COVID-19 outbreak. Modern and intelligent methods of construction provided new hospitals within a few weeks. Infrastructure and services were quickly provided to serve medical needs and USB sockets from BG insured recovering patients remained connected.
