PHTMEXPO PRIZE DRAW WINNER WINS £2,000 OFF INSURANCE

Having only been a private hire driver for two years, Tommy Corcoran certainly entered the trade at a time of upheaval and uncertainty, as well as financial hardship for many. With the taxi and private hire sector among the five industries worst affected by inflation over the past decade, and in the face of inconsistent fare commission from ride- hailing apps, drivers are currently operating in a testing environment.
It was against this backdrop that Tommy attended this year’s PHTM EXPO, along with his colleagues from SAS Travel Stoke.
“It’s a great day out for us,” he explains. “There are nine of us that go down in the minibus, and we go for a curry after- wards. We
help
ourselves to all the free cups, pens and other things they give away, but it’s also a good opportunity to catch up with our colleagues in the trade. It’s always helpful chatting to other drivers, because they might know something that you don’t.”
Apart from being a good opportunity to network and share knowledge with industry colleagues, the Expo also gives one lucky visitor to The Taxi Insurer’s stand the chance to win £2,000 off their next insurance policy. Tommy and the rest of the team duly entered and then continued networking and socialising.

Fast forward a couple of months, and Tommy was having a bad morning. He’d got up at 6am to find that his minibus wouldn’t start, his insurer was refusing to send a recovery vehicle before 9am and he’d lost a couple of jobs as a result.
“And then, just as I got the minibus recovered, I received an email telling me that I’d won The Taxi Insurer’s prize draw,” he says. “So, I had a big smile on my face after that!”

Tommy’s win was even more satisfying as it was the first time he’d entered the giveaway, and it came in the year when the prize was increased from the £1,500 that had been on offer in previous years.
“Honestly, I never thought anything of it when I entered,” he confesses. “It was a real surprise. You never expect to win when you enter a prize draw, do you?”
Unlike former winners, who used the money they’d saved to pay for trips abroad to visit friends and family, Tommy had a much more tangible and immediate idea in mind of how he was going to use his windfall.
“I treated myself to a new motorbike,” he reveals, gleefully. “My hobby is riding enduro bikes, so I upgraded my bike. I part-exchanged my previous one and then spent the money I’d saved on my insurance on a new bike.”
So, before Tommy departs to don his boots and helmet, there’s just one more question to be asked: will he be entering the prize draw again at next year’s Expo?
“Well, it’d be rude not to, wouldn’t it?” he replies, with a grin.
